Hello! This is a forum for people to share their personal websites (Cakelandish and otherwise), and to talk and learn about indie web development. I do not have the capacity to moderate threads outside of these topics so the purposes of this forum will remain pretty specific for now. Although my experiences with forums is minimal, I figured the knowledge accrued will still be better off on here than on Yet Another Discord Server. Currently every registration will be manually approved, and with a simple question to answer before being allowed an account, to help prevent bots. After registration, you will be expected to abide by the following rules for the forum: Respect or toleration of all other registered members is a must. No harassment is allowed to other members and no topics dedicated to hating on any groups or individuals are allowed either. This especially includes harassment towards queer and minority groups. Civil disagreements are okay, but no "superiority" contests are permitted (ex. arguing over which client framework or library is the best). I expect more nuanced discussions of what the positives and negatives are of each choice if such a topic were to be made. No generative AI of any kind is allowed on the forums. This includes comments, topics, images, and help that used generative AI to be created, even with partial human intervention. Sexually explicit and pirated content are not permitted. As for everything else, use best judgement. I may refine this rule later depending on what happens. In addition to these rules, you also agree to follow the more specific rules posted under each category when posting there. You acknowledge that all information here is publicly accessible to the entire internet: guests are allowed to search all topics and users here for information. That's it! I hope you get something useful out of participating here.

This is kind of the main point of the forum, isn't it? You are free to make topics about your own Cakelandish sites and non-Cakelandish sites here. You can also link to those websites, share screenshots, talk about progress updates, and probably more things! In addition to the general rules, you are expected to abide by the following: They must be your own sites! If you are sharing a website it is assumed that you are the one who created it. For the sake of searching, please tag whether the site you are showing off is powered by Cakelandish. You can do this by tagging your topic with "cakelandish" or "non-cakelandish" as shown in the tags of this topic. You are free to use further tags if you're using some other service or have built your site from scratch, ex. "neocities" or "custom", if you want. The general rules mostly apply to the websites you share: no websites centered around harassment or hate, built from generative AI (discussion of this or other transformative uses of this on your site are probably fine), and no sexually explicit or pirated content. If your site is linked with other indie sites and those chain to finding such content it might be okay. I will use best judgement when determining if something is crossing the line here. Suggestive stuff is okay. If your website contains flashing bright changing of colors, or basically anything that could invoke an epileptic seizure, it must be warned either in the topic on the same post the website is shared, or a warning is placed on the site itself and a user can avoid seeing it until they consent. Screamer and shock sites are not allowed. For those that need a definition, they are websites whose purpose is to jumpscare or terrorize the visitor (ex. IRL gore/death), whether immediately or subversively through navigating and interacting with the site. Any site that attempts to break the security of a visitor's computer or browser, or collect personally identifiable information about them is not allowed (ex. name, address, login credentials). It's a lot but I really hope this is just common sense and nobody would even think about sharing sites that violate the above rules anyway.

This is the place to ask for help about developing your own websites, Cakelandish or not, and to share knowledge for other people to learn from! There are three categories you can post a topic about. help - This tag is for when you have a general question about creating a website, which can include frontend development (ex. what libraries to use, HTML/CSS/JS help), and backend development (ex. web servers, data storage, build processes). I will do my best to answer when I can, but there's a chance I don't know either! support - This tag is for specifically issues with the Cakelandish project, whether it's about the installation process, how certain features work, feature requests, or bugs found. Bugs are also welcome to be posted as issues on the Cakelandish GitHub repository. If it's a feature request I may choose not to implement it for any reason of my own discretion. I guess technically the same is true for the bugs but I'd rather not have them exist either. tutorial - This tag is for providing the forum with knowledge about something you learned how to do. It can be for any skill level, from understanding flexbox alignment to modifying Cakelandish to implement automatic posting at a certain date. Am I saying that in the hopes that someone will implement it for me? Perhaps. There are only a few extra rules for this category: Tagging your topics is a requirement! What you tag your topic with is more important here than anywhere else. Please use either "help", "support", or "tutorial" as shown in the tags on this post, and only one of them. You may link a site as a way to show or ask how that site has performed a feature. Be mindful of the general rules and the rules of posting websites.

Do you think this forum could be configured or managed better? You're probably right! I will accept feedback on the forum and how to improve the usability of it for others. Do note the following guidelines: Don't be rude in your feedback. Unless I did something really bad and I deserve it, then maybe you could be a little mean. Note that my time and mental bandwidth in managing the site is very low, and thus the forum is designed to be minimally taxing to manage. So please be mindful about asking for expanding the range of topics or categories allowed on here. I may accept additional help in the future depending on how popular this forum gets (hah). If you have feedback about the Cakelandish project and you feel it's not appropriate to put the topic in the "Help, Support, Tutorials" category then you may place it here with the "cakelandish" tag.
